Popular Acne Remedies

Acne is a very popular health issue. It affects almost all adolescents, as well as millions of adults. Generally, acne is only a problem for a maximum of 10 years after puberty hits. However, some adults do get acne, and some have serious problems with it. If you are affected by acne, regardless of your age, you’re probably wondering how to get rid of it. There are many acne remedies out there – some work, most do not. Below you’ll find some of the better acne remedies I’ve heard of.

Prevention – The Best Kind of Treatment

Regardless of the severity of your acne problem, there are a few things you can do to avoid making it worse. The first is diet. Tons of studies have shown that diet does affect acne, although some experts argue it does not. In my personal experience, diet does affect the severity of your acne. If you eat a lot of fatty, fried foods, your acne will worse. Sweets also don’t help. You don’t have to completely change your diet or cut out any foods entirely – just try to cut down on fried foods and sweets, and you should see a difference in your acne. There are also some environmental changes you can make to help out. The first is keeping things clean. Your sheets and pillow cases should be washed regularly, as should any towels, especially the one you dry your face off with before you go to bed.

Over-the-Counter Products

There are hundreds of products out there designed to counter acne. Most have the same active ingredients, so it’s really just a matter of the concentration of them. While high concentrations might work better, they also dry out the skin, so don’t just go for the strongest product. Also, don’t spend a fortune on acne products. Most of them are fairly affordable. Proactive works very well, but it’s expensive.

Home Remedies

There are a lot of home acne remedies out there. You can come up with your own or do some research and try out a few you find. One popular one is quite simple – baking soda and water. You make a paste using the baking soda and water, then apply it to your acne and leave it there for 15 minutes. Then, rinse your face with warm water. Do this daily until you start seeing your acne disappear. This is a very cheap acne remedy and it has worked for a lot of people.

Prescriptions

If your acne is very sever and starts to really affect your life, and none of the acne remedies you’ve tried have worked, it may be time to see a doctor. Acne is a real medical condition, and your doctor knows how to treat it the best. He or she can examine your acne and determine what type it is, and what the best treatment would be. This should be a last resort, as prescriptions can be expensive, especially if you don’t have good medical insurance.
