What to do About Acne Spots

Teenagers get acne spots more often than most other age groups, due to the amount of hormonal changes involved with puberty.  Since teenagers also tend to be the most self-conscious of acne, they often worry about acne spots on a regular basis, which only increases the likelihood of a breakout.  The bodies  hormones and chemicals change on a regular basis during this time, making treatment very difficult.

Nearly everyone deals with some form of acne during their teenage years, though many people continue to suffer well into their adult years.  While battling acne during puberty is a very difficult challenge, preventing adult acne spots is possible with the right treatments and proper preventative measures.  In general, a healthy active lifestyle promotes healthy clear skin, so a few changes in your daily routine might make all the difference.

Maintaining a proper diet and exercising regularly is a great way to keep acne at bay.  This healthier lifestyle will keep hormone levels in balance and reduce stress – addressing two of the leading causes of acne spots.  In addition, it will help to flush harmful toxins from the body and reduce oil levels in the skin, contributing to a healthy clear complexion.

Many people like to pop their acne pimples as soon as they develop, but you must resist this urge at all times.  When you pop an acne pimple, you allow the bacteria to spread across the surface of your skin, possibly triggering the onset of more pimples.  In addition, if you squeeze hard to try and get all of the pus out, you may actually cause skin deformities and permanent scarring.

Washing your face regularly can do wonders for the prevention of acne spots.  Make sure you wash your face at least twice a day with a good but gentle facial cleanser, preferably with all natural ingredients.  Some of the stronger products on the market contain harsh chemicals which may irritate the skin leading to further acne outbreaks.    When you are done washing your face, apply an oil-free facial moisturizer or cream.  This will help keep your face moist and healthy, contributing to the overall health of your skin and preventing future acne spots.

Many people recommend using makeup or a facial mask to cover up acne spots.  While this may provide a temporary cosmetic solution, it may in fact worsen the condition.  Thick oil based makeup products tend to clog the pores, trapping in acne causing bacteria, which can increase the severity and frequency of acne outbreaks.  If you decide to go this route, make sure you use an oil free makeup, which is less likely to clog your pores.

Clearing your face of acne spots and preventing their return may be somewhat challenging, but the rewards are certainly worth it.  Having clear healthy skin will make you look and feel better, plus it is a great self-confidence booster.  Feeling better about yourself in turn reduces your stress, making you healthier and actually prevents future acne spots from occurring.
